NADFAS has a policy of encouraging young people in the practice and appreciation of the arts and each society has its own way of achieving this. At Dover and Deal Decorative and Fine Arts Society we give several small bursaries each year to outstanding students at the end of their Foundation Year at the University for the Creative Arts Canterbury, as they move on to further degree courses. A team from the committee visits the end of year exhibition and having seen their work, selects two to four candidates who we consider to have achieved an exceptionally high standard, preferably from several disciplines such as Fine Art, Graphics, Fashion and Animation.

The students are asked to attend our September meeting and put up a display of their work and this gives them and our members a mutual opportunity to meet and discuss their aims and where they are moving on to study. They also attend the lecture, often with family members as well, and are presented with a NADFAS certificate along with a cheque. The students are proud to receive the recognition of NADFAS and are able to use it in their CV.  This is always an enjoyable occasion and one at which members can see a tangible result for their interest and support of the Arts through NADFAS.
